Best man John speech: for Andrew and Anna
Speech
(Opening Hook - Tone: Playful)
"Right, so, [pause] for those of you wondering why I was chosen as best man, [pause] I’m pretty sure Andrew drew names out of a hat... and I had the biggest hat. [pause] I’m kidding, mostly. My name is John, and I’ve had the distinct pleasure of knowing Andrew for far too long."
(Story Setup - Tone: Lighthearted, Nostalgic)
"Let’s rewind, shall we? Picture this: It’s almost 13 years ago, two fresh-faced young lads, probably thinking we were the coolest kids in school, we met in [pause] lets just say a quite boring english class, Andrew, with his signature overly enthusiastic nod, like he had just discovered a new planet. And me, well, I was just trying to figure out how to stay awake. Little did we know we were about to embark on a friendship that’s survived questionable fashion choices and even worse decisions."
(Core Stories & Humor - Tone: Playful, Energetic)
"And speaking of questionable decisions… I have to share this story. So, there we were, walking home from school. And we passed Mr. Tod’s house, where his orange tree was practically begging to be raided. Andrew, bless his mischievous soul, decided he was going to ‘sample’ a few. [pause] So he reaches out, [pause] and then BAM! Mr. Tod’s giant dog appears out of nowhere, like a furry missile. Andrew bolts, leaving his backpack behind in his hasty retreat. [pause] That backpack, still sitting like a discarded battle trophy, was recovered the next day, slightly chewed, but holding up still to this day, just like Andrew."
(Core Stories & Humor - Tone: Playful, Energetic)
"Oh, there's more! Fast forward to last year, Andrew and I thought a trip to Bangkok was in order. We were ready for a relaxing vacation, some delicious street food, maybe a nice cold beer. [pause] We did NOT check the calendar. We get off the plane, eager to experience the city and within 10 minutes, we were absolutely drenched like we had just swam the Thames river! Turns out it was Songkran, the water festival. We went from perfectly dry tourists to looking like two freshly caught, very confused, salmon. [pause] Let’s just say, the cocktails tasted a lot better after we dried off. It's a testament to Andrew’s spirit though, [pause] he was laughing harder than anyone else."
(Emotional Bridge - Tone: Sincere, Heartfelt)
"But in all seriousness, these ridiculous escapades with Andrew, they’re more than just funny stories. They're the threads that make up a tapestry of genuine friendship. We've seen each other at our best, at our worst, and somehow, we've always come out the other side with a good laugh and a tighter bond. Tone: Sincere And seeing how much he's grown as a person these past few years, well, it’s been amazing to witness."
(Bride & Couple Section - Tone: Warm, Humorous)
"And speaking of amazing, [pause] Anna, wow. [pause] I'll be honest, I haven’t had a chance to get to know you incredibly well, but it is clear to see the positive impact you have had on Andrew, seeing the smile on his face when he talks about you, is all the proof I need, and I can confidently say, Andrew has never looked happier. You've clearly found a real gem. [pause] And I will happily admit, that gem is Andrew. [pause] And Anna, just between us, [lean in as if telling a secret] I think you might be the only person who can get him to actually be on time. I mean look, [gesture towards them] You guys just fit together perfectly."
(Closing & Toast - Tone: Warm, Joyful)
"So, Andrew, from all the backpack chaos and water fights, to seeing you stand here today with Anna, it's been an absolute privilege to witness. [pause] You've found your perfect partner and I couldn’t be happier for you both. So, please everyone, raise your glasses with me. To Andrew and Anna, [pause] may your life together be filled with joy, laughter, and maybe just a little bit less water. To the happy couple!"
(Toast)
"Cheers!"
